CCCGLA has opened its doors to the local community and has joined again to the March art walk in downtown San Pedro (1st Thursday event) with a nice art exhibit by Joe Baric. This young and perspective local painter of Croatian descent has gathered several other local artists in this event, reaching out to the younger audience of San Pedro art enthusiasts. Supported by family and friends, young artists brought CCCGLA back alive as a large crowd of all ages streamed through the building admiring the art pieces. Director for Public Relations of the Friends of the Croatian Cultural Center Inc., Mr. Terry Katnic was very pleased with the initiative and organization of the event by the group of young Croatian-Americans, emphasizing their role in the local culture and multicultural outreach to the community.

On Friday, Feb. 19th, 2010. Councilwomen Janice Hahn (District 15), met with Executive Board/Board of Directors of the Friends of The Croatian Cultural Center Inc. (FCCC), a non-profit organization that runs Croatian Cultural Center of Greater Los Angeles (CCCGLA) to get familiar with the fresh start and future directions of the new FCCC leadership. The visitors spent some time in a business meeting with the FCCC President Maya Bristow and several members of the Executive Board, where they agreed of a common goal to preserve the Croatian Cultural Center as a community outreach center for several generations of Croatians that for more than 100 years now have build and incorporated their lives in and around maritime and cultural traditions of San Pedro and Greater Los Angeles area.  FCCC informed Councilwomen Hahn of current programs and activities in the Center that are focused to preserve and present Croatian language and culture to the local community and to build the collaboration and exchange with other cultures and ethnic groups in this area. The leadership of the CCCGLA is also interested to reach out to the local area businesses and actively participate in initiatives to improve and contribute to the development and beautification of the downtown San Pedro/7th Street community. FCCC expressed their gratitude to have Councilwomen Hahn from the local government and the new Consul General of the Republic of Croatia in Los Angeles, Ilija Zelalic, on their side.

"Branimir Kvartuc: Croatia in my iPhone," a photo gallery show at the Croatian Cultural Center of Greater Los Angeles.

This series of nearly 100 photographs is Branimir's second iPhone gallery show where he continues to create stunning imagery with a two megapixel cell phone camera.

"In Croatia, I have photographed everything from village life to the President of the country. I feel like this series of photos offers a wide perspective of life in Croatia," he said. "I love using the iPhone to create images because it is always in my pocket and available to me wherever I am. This allows me to capture moments that otherwise would have been missed."
